Microsoft Teams on RealWear

General Availability

Microsoft has officially released the General Availability (GA) version of Microsoft Teams through RealWear Foresight. It has moved from Public Preview to General Availability for all users. Teams GA for RealWear includes Join Meeting functionality and Improved Video Resolution up to 720p resolution at 30 frames per second (fps).

If you are a Foresight administrator, review the information in this article to learn more about Microsoft Teams General Availability, improvements in this version, and how to update Microsoft Teams on the HMT-1.

Q: When will Teams GA be available via RealWear Foresight?

A: Teams GA is available to all Foresight customers effective immediately (Oct. 29, 2020).

• If you are a Foresight administrator who is new to Teams on RealWear, then please refer to the Teams Solution Setup Guide available on our website.
• If your users have already been using Teams, then to begin using Teams GA immediately, Foresight administrators must manually update existing policies for Teams to use the latest Teams GA version.
• Auto-Update for Teams GA will be enabled on November 7, 2020. Once this occurs, existing Foresight policies for Teams will be automatically updated to the Teams GA version.

Getting Started

• If you are a Foresight administrator who is new to Microsoft Teams on your HMT-1, click here to learn more.
• As early as November 7th, 2020, HMT-1 devices which have been updated to Release 11.2 will auto-update to the new, Teams GA version (click here for auto-update information). If you are an administrator currently using Teams, and opt to wait for Teams to auto-update to the Teams GA version, your Teams policies will be auto-updated to reference Teams GA on Nov. 7, 2020.
• If you are an end user using Teams on your HMT-1 and would like to update to Teams GA, please contact your company administrator.

What to do next:

• Foresight Tenant Administrators: Instruct your HMT-1 users to update their HMT-1 devices to Firmware Release 11.2. Improved video quality in Teams is currently available only on HMT-1 devices on Firmware Release 11.2.
• For the HMT-1Z1, Firmware Release 11.2 is available as of November 23 (Now available).  To put yourself on the “allow list” for firmware early access, email support@realwear.com with your dedicated RealWear contacts on copy, and specify up to three (3) HMT-1Z1 device serial number(s) to receive early access of Release 11.2 via a Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update.

Q: How do I know if I have access to the Teams GA build in Foresight?

A: In Foresight, your Application Catalog provides details on all apps available to your Foresight tenant. The Teams GA app version name is: 1449/1.0.89.2020100201 (see example below):

Q: What actions do I need to take in Foresight?

A: Currently, Teams GA is available only through Foresight. To update Teams on your HMT-1 devices, please follow the steps below:

1. Remove the existing Teams app from the policy
2. Add the Teams GA app (1449/1.0.89.2020100201) to the policy
3. Save

This will result in Teams GA being pushed to your HMT-1 devices. Your devices must be connected to Wi-Fi and able to connect to Foresight to receive the updated policy.

This process can take up to 30 minutes to complete. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section below to resolve any issues.

Q: How do I know if Teams GA was successfully installed on my device?

A: On your HMT-1 device, the Teams GA app icon does not have a preview (PRVW) banner.

Q: What actions do I need to take on the HMT device for auto-update? 

Please ensure that your HMT device is updated to Firmware Release 11.2. 

Once your HMT-1 has been updated to Firmware Release 11.2, Teams will auto-update if the following criteria are met on the device: 

1. The device is connected to power. 
2. The device is connected to the internet over Wi-Fi. 
3. The Teams app is not in the foreground (app is closed or in background). 

Depending on conditions, the auto-update process can take up to 30 minutes to complete. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section below to resolve any issues. 

Q: What will happen on November 7th if any of my devices are not running RealWear’s Release 11.2? 

Upgrading your HMT Firmware Release to 11.2. provides the best Teams GA experience. 

Teams will be updated on devices running firmware prior to Release 11.2. However, improved video quality is available only with HMT Firmware Release 11.2. 

What actions do I need to take in Foresight for auto-update? 

With Auto-Update for Teams through Foresight, all policies referencing Teams will be auto-updated to use the Teams GA version. You will not need to take any further action in Foresight. 

Troubleshooting

Q: I have followed the steps to update Teams, and my HMT-1 device is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi, but Teams has not updated to the Teams GA version. What steps should I take to update Teams to GA?

A: Here are a few things to try if Teams GA is not visible on your HMT-1 device(s):

1. Update your device to the latest firmware.
2. Power off and power on your HMT-1 device

Once your HMT-1 has powered on, toggle Wi-Fi on your HMT-1 device. From the home screen, say the following commands in this sequence:

1. “My controls”
2. “Wireless Network”
3. “Disable”
4. “Wireless Network”
5. “Enable”
